Senior Leadership Team

Ms Katherine Brown (Headteacher) 

I am privileged to be the Headteacher of Blaise High School and am so excited for us to be in our third year as a proud member of the Greenshaw Learning Trust. I have spent my career working in schools in South London each of which with results above national average and outstanding Ofsted ratings. I am committed to ensuring all students at Blaise High School have a better chance of success no matter their background, for us this is Social Justice.

Ms Frances Bywater (Deputy Headteacher) 

As Deputy Headteacher, I lead on Teaching, Learning and Curriculum. After training to teach in London through Teach First as an English teacher and spending eight years in schools there, I moved to the southwest to join Blaise High School. I am dedicated to ensuring the students at Blaise receive an exceptional education and have every opportunity available to them as they move into further education. 

Mr Jim Harvey (Deputy Headteacher) 

As Deputy Headteacher I lead on timetabling, data and daily operations. I also work with the Resource Base to uphold our values of ambition, inclusion and social justice.

Mrs Nicole Cerullo (Assistant Headteacher) 

I am an Assistant Headteacher and I'm proud to be the longest-serving member of staff at Blaise. It's my privilege to work with the children of students I used to teach years ago! I have responsibility for Attendance and punctuality, transition and Character Education and my role is to make sure that our students leave Blaise with the widest possible breadth of experiences.

Miss Lydia Greenwood (Assistant Headteacher) 

I am so fortunate to be an Assistant Head Teacher at Blaise High School. I lead on Behaviour in the school and I am also the designated Safeguarding Lead. Every lesson at Blaise High School is 100% disruption free which means every student has the best possible chance of success every minute of every lesson. I am very proud to lead our school Pastoral Team and Safeguarding Team and to see the work they do to ensure every child is successful, happy and supported every day in school. 

Miss Josie Shelton (Assistant Headteacher) 

As Assistant Headteacher I am responsible for student outcomes. I have a keen focus on Year 11 and ensure they are ready and prepared for their final year of secondary school and have all the tools they need to be successful in their exams. I also work with the SEN and Intervention team to ensure we uphold our school values of inclusion and ambition.

Miss Sarah Bate (Associate Assistant Headteacher) 

As Associate Assistant Headteacher I am responsible for Whole School Oracy, improving all our students speaking skills and giving students the best chance of being successful citizens upon leaving Blaise High School. I also play a key role in promoting inclusively and celebrating diversity within our school community supporting our school value of social justice in ensuring that all our students learn about a wide range of social, spiritual and cultural experiences.

Mr Matt Standing (Associate Assistant Headteacher) 

I am the Associate Assistant Headteacher responsible for Community Engagement and Rewards at Blaise. I am ambitious for all of our students and am committed to ensuring we consistently recognise and reward success through our rewards program. I also lead on homework and  support students to ensure they have a better chance of success. I am a passionate Computer Scientist and am dedicated to ensuring my students get the very best possible outcomes right up to GCSE.

Mr J Bennett (Head of Art)

I am the Head of Art, Design and Technology. I oversee all the subjects within this Faculty including Art, Graphic Design, Engineering, and Catering. I have been teaching for 20 years and I firmly believe in the power of creativity and individuality.

Computing and Media 

Mr M Standing (Associate Assistant Head / Head of Computing and Media)

I am the Associate Assistant Headteacher responsible for Community Engagement and Rewards at Blaise. I am ambitious for all of our students and am committed to ensuring we consistently recognise and reward success through our rewards program. I also lead on homework and  support students to ensure they have a better chance of success. I am a passionate Computer Scientist and am dedicated to ensuring my students get the very best possible outcomes right up to GCSE.

English 

Mr D Allan (Head of English)

I am Head of English at Blaise. It is my responsibility to ensure that you receive the very best education in English; this means guiding you through over 4,000 years of literature and helping you develop a passion for both the subject and the power of language. I have been teaching for 19 years but originally trained and worked as a journalist and copywriter.

Miss C Carey (Second in English)

I am the Second in English at Blaise.  I lead the English online homework platform, Bedrock.  It is an innovative learning tool that helps teach essential Tier 2 words, root words and academic vocabulary, encouraging the reading of a wide range of fiction and non-fiction texts and increasing cultural capital.

Ms D Baxter (Lead Practitioner)

I am a Lead Practitioner at Blaise HIgh School and a teacher of English.  I qualified as an Advanced Skills Teacher in 2012. In addition to teaching English, I am responsible for delivering the Early Career Framework to our Early Career Teachers.

Miss L Fordham (Lead Practitioner)

I am an English teacher and Lead Practitioner who has worked at the school for 7 years. My role focusses on refining the quality of teaching across the school and improving student literacy. I aim to instil a love of English beyond the classroom as well as provide an education that will open doors to whatever futures our students choose.

Geography 

Mrs C Murray (Head of Geography)

I am Head of Geography, leading a successful geography department. I have taught at Blaise High School since September 2000. I am passionate about geography and the skills it gives to students throughout their lives.

Miss L Cope (Lead Practitioner)

I am the Lead Practitioner of Geography. I have previously taught in schools across the South West, in a number of different roles. Within the role of Lead Practitioner, I am responsible for the ensuring high quality of work produced by the students across different subjects

History 

Miss M Reynolds (Acting Head of History)

As Head of History I am responsible for our ambitious History curriculum. I joined Blaise High School in 2020, having previously taught at schools in London and Australia. I aim to foster a love of History and learning and I work in collaboration with the other History teachers to support each student to succeed in this subject. 

Intervention 

Mrs P Mullen (Head of Intervention)

As Head of Interventions I organise, oversee and teach literacy and maths interventions at Blaise High School. My focus is to improve the life chances of our students by improving their literacy and maths skills.

Maths 

Mrs H Sales (Head of Maths)

I am the Head of Maths at Blaise High School. I ensure that all students enjoy excellent maths lessons and achieve their best possible outcomes. I lead a dedicated team of exceptional maths specialists who work tirelessly to inspire every student to love and value mathematics as much as we do.

Mr J Burr (Second in Maths)

I am the Second in Maths, I am new to Blaise this year and am really excited to join the school. I care deeply about ensuring all students succeed in maths and leave school feeling positive about the subject. My main responsibility in the department is around Sparx and Hegarty homework. 

Ms U Cumiskey (Lead Practitioner)

I am a Lead Practitioner in Maths. I have been teaching for 11 years and had a previous career in Mechanical Engineering. I am very passionate about maths and the encouraging the potential careers that our students can have in the future. My responsibility is to assist any teachers who wish to improve their teaching in certain areas. 

Miss E Davey (Lead Practitioner)

I am a Lead Practitioner and maths teacher with responsibility for providing support and professional development to our trainee teachers through Teach First. Having completed my own teacher training through Teach First I believe it is an excellent way of recruiting high quality teachers into the profession, who are committed to ensuring that every pupil is given the tools they need to make outstanding progress.

Mr D Tushingham (Lead Practitioner)

I am a Lead Practitioner in the Mathematics team and have held various roles both as a head of maths departments and within a senior team. My responsibility is to collaboratively ensure quality professional development for staff across the academy. I will work tirelessly with every single student in our academy to ensure that they have the best possible chance of success. 

Modern Foreign Languages 

Mrs J McMullan (Head of MFL)

I am Head of Modern Foreign Languages at Blaise High School. Languages have always been my passion and I aim to encourage a love for language learning and an interest in different countries and cultures in the students I teach. Languages not only provide a passport for travel and exploration but also for a better chance of success in the future.

Performing Arts 

Miss S Harper (Head of Performing Arts)

As Head of Performing Arts, I recognise the key role that Music, Dance and Drama plays in every child’s education to develop them into well-rounded individuals. I lead a team of fantastic subject specialists, who all work in the performing arts industry in their own time. We are all passionate about our subjects and will want to nurture imaginative, and inquisitive minds to develop them into positive role models in the community. 

Religious Studies 

Miss S Bate (Associate Assistant Headteacher / Head of RS)

Resource Base 

Miss S Nutt (Head of Resource Base)

I am Head of the Resource Base. My role is to oversee the students in the Resource Base and make sure that their needs are meet and to help them to reach their full potential. I work with a team of SEND teachers, Teaching Assistants, Personal Care Assistants, outside agencies and parents to support our young people. I am passionate about Special Educational Needs and believe that this should not hold a young person back from being successful. 

Mrs P Hopkins (Post 16 Manager)

I am the Post 16 Centre Manager with the responsibility of supporting Resource Base students in Year 12 and Year 13. My focus is to ensure that, during their time in Post 16, my students develop both their self-confidence and independence skills so that they are able to move in to a supported work placement or begin a course at College and thus widen their own life choices as they become young adults.

SEN 

Ms L McCall (SENCO)

As Blaise High School's SENDCo I am passionate about social justice and ensuring that all of our students, no matter their needs, receive an exceptional education. Upholding our values of ambition, inclusion and collaboration, I work throughout the school and wider community to support our students to be the very best that they can. As an English teacher, I am lucky enough to teach many of our students with needs and put into practice the support they deserve.

Science
 

Mrs R Todd (Head of Science)

I am the Head of Science leading the team of science teachers and technicians. I am responsible for the curriculum design and the assessment of science across the school as well as the professional development of the science department.  I am passionate about science and science teaching and believe that every student at our school has access to a high quality curriculum taught by excellent practitioners. 

Mr S Maloney (Second in Science)

I am the second in Science at Blaise. I aim to impart my love of the subject to the students, bringing out their inner scientist and developing lifelong skills. I lead the science online homework platform, Tassomai. It is a fantastic piece of software that really helps develop the scientific vocabulary and recall.

Mrs L Chinn (Head of Year 7)

Mr S Leese (Head of Year 8)

My role as Head of Year 8 is to ensure that our Year 8 students have the best chance of success every day. The education and well-being of Year 8 are at the heart of everything I do, and I support them to make the right decisions to get the most from their time at school. My aim is to build an atmosphere of ambition and collaboration among the year group by celebrating both the academic and extracurricular achievements of Year 8, and the kindness they show to each other.

Mrs C Brightley (Head of Year 11)

A Head of Y11 I am privileged to support our students pastorally through their final year. I also oversee their transition to Post 16, apprenticeships or employment by working closely with our independent careers adviser. We work to ensure our young people are happy and well-prepared for continuing success after their journey at Blaise High School.

Mr M Carraway (Deputy Head of Year)

As an Assistant Head of Year I am focusing on homework completion for a select number of students. Primarily, my interaction with them will last a term (6 weeks) and my aspirations are that these students are equipped and prepared to independently complete their homework (without any intervention) going forward. The students and I will have weekly catch up sessions with the aim of engaging them to complete their Hegarty, Bedrock and Tassomai tasks. My role is to supervise, engage parents and to support the young person, so they feel confident with our homework policy.

Miss J Davies (Deputy Head of Year)

My role is to ensure that all students at Blaise High School are in the correct uniform and have the correct equipment ready for learning every day. I am here to offer support and communicate with families and students, where necessary.  I believe that a School uniform plays a valuable role in contributing to the ethos of a school, a sense of pride and belonging and setting an appropriate tone. It also ensures that all students from all races and backgrounds feel welcome here at Blaise High School.

Miss T Wright (Deputy Head of Year)

I am an assistant Head of Year and I have responsibility for ensuring that all students arrive at school on time.  I believe being on time ensures the best start to their day and contributes to the day ahead being a successful one.  I am committed to working with our students and their families so that every student has a positive start to the day.  

Mr O Bird (Head of ALP)

As Head of the ALP my mission is to ensure every student here at Blaise High School has the best opportunity for success no matter their background or circumstances. My role involves supporting students to have high expectations for themselves and to achieve their potential. I am also an experienced science teacher and share my passion for the subject with every student I teach.
